If you love The Crown on Netflix, this is right up your alley! Ann and Miriam are two embroiderers at a famous fashion house in Britain. Although it's been a harsh winter and everyone struggling to provide. One day they are chosen to work on Princess Elizabeth's wedding dress. Fast forward to 2016 and you'll meet Heather. She finds some embroidered flowers that belonged to her late grandmother. Now, she must find out about her grandmother's past.

Josie is nothing like her mother, but the locals in town don't believe that...they assume Josie will be a prostitute just like her mom. Set in the French Quarter in the 1950s, Josie seems to be ahead of her time and desires a bright future away from the Big Easy. She dreams of college...and is accepted...but then a murder in her mother's circle makes her question her next step. This inspiring book is one of my favorites because it encourages you to take charge of your future and take those big steps even when it's scary.

Tina is a refugee along with her mother. They left the Congo for Kenya and her mom becomes a maid for a wealthy business owner. When her mother is murdered Tina is left to live on her own, but she also wants to know the truth about who killed her mom. She joins a gang who she knows can help her get revenge and ultimately the truth. Her chance comes along when the gang sends her to the place where her mother was murdered to steal computer files...BUT...she gets caught...but by who and what are the consequences?

This book may start out as a Debbie downer, but just wait...the end makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Jennifer is on the track team at school and is really good...until she's in an accident and her leg is amputated. She can't run...she's missed a lot of school...it's hard to adjust to a prosthetic leg...to her, life sucks. Then, she meets Rosa, a girl who has a disability, but looks on the bright side. Their friendship grows and Jennifer learns a lot about perseverance, life, and friendship.

Mark Watney is part of the Ares Mission that were the first people to set foot on Mars. The crew is caught in a dust storm and they think Mark is dead so they leave Mars...without him. Now that Mark is alone on Mars he must learn to survive. How long will he be able to survive? Mark relies on his botany skills to produce more food. He eventually gets in contact with Mission Control, but will Mark get back to Earth or is it too late? One of the coolest things about this book is that NASA approved all the details about Mars. I think The Martian is the ONLY book that I think the movie is just as good. With that being said there is a HUGE part in the book that is left out of the movie.

Tara lives in rural Idaho and is the youngest in the family. She is "homeschooled" - that term is used loosely and has never been in a classroom. Her father and an older brother are abusive and Tara doesn't know much about the world outside her small community, not even doctors. She begins to teach herself and gets a high enough score on the ACT to be admitted into BYU. This is the first time she has ever heard of major world events and some people think she is being sarcastic and rude with her questions about the Holocaust. A professor sees her potential and takes her under his wing and helps her continue her education. She eventually attends Harvard AND Cambridge.

Are you a MAC person?

Please remember that ND is a Microsoft school, which means we provide you with PCs with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. It is becoming more frequent that students are using a Mac at home and typing papers and projects in Mac's version of Word, called Pages. Unfortunately, Pages documents are not compatible to Word. However, a MS compatible file can EASILY be created on your MAC. Watch the video below to learn how.
